At the 2024 Annual Meeting of Members, CUCA proudly announced a series of impactful achievements that underscore the organization’s commitment to driving energy cost savings and fostering sustainable practices for North Carolina industries. These accomplishments, the result of relentless advocacy and strategic initiatives, highlight CUCA’s dedication to supporting its members and strengthening the manufacturing and industrial community.

For over four decades, the Carolina Utility Consumers Association (CUCA) has championed energy cost savings and sustainable practices for North Carolina manufacturers and industry. Through dedicated advocacy and strategic initiatives, CUCA has delivered significant financial benefits to its members, ensuring fair and transparent utility practices while driving economic growth across the state.

Driving Impact: Millions in Energy Savings

In 2023 alone, CUCA’s initiatives resulted in millions in energy savings for its members. These savings empower industries to reinvest in their workforce, equipment upgrades, and community initiatives. Cost savings are attributable to:

Reducing, Avoiding, or Eliminating Unnecessary Fees and Costs

Through its advocacy efforts, CUCA successfully mitigated, avoided, or eliminated unnecessary fees and unwarranted expenses, significantly reducing operational costs for manufacturers and the broader industry.

Storm Securitization Legislation

CUCA supported the implementation of low-interest bonds to reduce financial burdens from natural disasters, protecting businesses from sudden rate hikes.

These milestones translate directly into improved operational efficiency and economic growth for member companies.

A Legacy of Savings and Advocacy

CUCA’s work has collectively saved North Carolina industries an astounding $3.8 billion over the past decade. By actively engaging in rate cases and regulatory processes, CUCA ensures its members benefit from fair rates and policies.

In 2024 alone, examples of results of CUCA efforts:

Saving a member over $1 million in annually recurring energy costs.

Reducing an individual member’s charge by $250,000 annually.

Preventing a proposed 40% increase in natural gas rates.

Strengthening Our Network

CUCA continues to expand its reach, fostering connections across industries to amplify the collective voice of North Carolina’s industrial sector.

Looking Ahead

CUCA remains committed to its mission of maintaining competitive energy costs, driving innovation, and supporting economic sustainability for North Carolina’s industries.
